US-led coalition of 14 countries labels Brazil's PCC and Comando Vermelho as terrorists

A US-led alliance of 14 Latin American and Caribbean countries has designated Brazil's PCC and Comando Vermelho as terrorist organizations, imposing asset freezes and visa restrictions. The decision was announced Tuesday during the Shield of the Americas meeting in New York. The agreement targets 24 groups total, including MS-13 and Sinaloa Cartel, and punishes those providing financial or logistical support. Brazil and Mexico are not part of the coalition, which was created in March. Each member will apply sanctions according to its own laws. Brazil still classifies the gangs as criminal organizations, not terrorists, requiring legal changes for similar designation. The PCC operates in 24 Brazilian states with 42,000 members and has links in 28 countries.
