Ukraine's Starshield contract with US expires in 2027
Ukraine's contract with the US government for access to the Starshield satellite network expires next year, according to Ukraine's chargé d'affaires in Washington, Denys Senyk. Kyiv is urgently seeking to begin negotiations on a new agreement. Senyk stated the contract expires in mid-2027 and that Ukraine wants clarity on the terms of continued cooperation. He also noted Ukraine has not received explanations from the Pentagon, White House, or SpaceX regarding sudden speed restrictions that have hampered Ukrainian forces' ability to intercept Russian drones. The restrictions forced some Ukrainian military operations to be cancelled. Separately, Senate Democrats plan to investigate the Starshield limitations in Ukraine, with inquiries into the Trump administration expected after they gain a Congressional majority in January 2027.
