Reddit to require login for anonymous visitors in several countries

Reddit will require users in several countries outside the U.S. to log in before reading most discussions by the end of 2026, shifting to a "primarily logged-in" experience, according to CEO Steve Huffman. The company aims to curb AI bots scraping its content, but it also faces declining Google-driven traffic and relies on logged-in members for over 80% of its revenue. In Q2, 77.7 million of 130.3 million daily visitors browsed anonymously. Reddit has already restricted anonymous access to Old Reddit, will remove RSS feeds on November 13, and plans to close public API access by March 2027. The test starts outside the U.S., possibly including France, though the homepage and linked content remain accessible.
