PHP Foundation operates with one full-time staff member, director says
The PHP Foundation, which supports the open-source language underpinning up to 70% of global websites, operates with just one full-time staff member and 14 part-time contractors, its director said Friday. This disclosure follows a global scramble to patch two serious PHP flaws discovered this week. Executive Director Elizabeth Barron said the foundation relies on donations and grants, with unpaid board members, while working with OpenAI and cybersecurity firms to coordinate fixes. She stated there is no evidence hackers exploited the vulnerabilities before Wednesday's patches were issued. Artificial intelligence helped researchers find the decade-old flaws but has also increased workloads, with proposed code changes nearly doubling year-over-year. Barron emphasized that PHP is "incredibly under-funded" given the heavy reliance on it by companies and governments.
