Paris clashes erupt as 46,000 protest living standards and education
Around 46,000 people marched in Paris on Saturday to protest France's declining living standards and education system, with clashes erupting at the end between a small group and police. The demonstration was largely peaceful until officers detained a man who set fire to a trash bin. Police used tear gas against about 200 violent individuals who threw objects and firecrackers during the dispersal in Place de la Nation, according to the Paris police prefecture. Officers repeatedly urged the crowd to leave calmly as protesters chanted "Get out!" The Paris turnout was lower than Thursday's 65,000, marking the fourth Saturday of major protests called by unions and youth groups. Nationwide, police counted 146,000 participants while organizers claimed 250,000, with 70,000 officers deployed. Clashes also occurred in Lyon and Lille.
