Newsmax journalists to document humanitarian mission in occupied Oleshky

nv.ua (Ukrainian) —

US First Lady Melania Trump announced that four American journalists from Newsmax will travel to occupied Oleshky in Ukraine's Kherson region to document a humanitarian mission alongside Russian and Ukrainian humanitarian representatives. In an October 28 statement, Trump said the journalists will work as "neutral observers" and independently record the mission's progress. However, The Atlantic's Zarina Zabrisky reported the trip may serve as Russian propaganda, as Moscow will only allow selected US media access under Russian military escort, potentially showing a controlled narrative. Independent journalists remain barred from Oleshky, where about 1,700 residents face severe food and medicine shortages. The ceasefire, brokered by Trump and announced October 27, runs until November 1, with Ukraine's ombudsman reporting no incidents in the first 30 hours.
