Merz doubts Russia's commitment to peace talks with Ukraine

20minutes.fr (French) —

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Tuesday he does not see Moscow engaging in serious peace negotiations with Ukraine, ahead of US-mediated talks scheduled for November 10-11 in Abu Dhabi. Merz made the remarks while hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin, stating that Russia must finally enter serious negotiations on a ceasefire and peace agreement, but that he does not currently see this happening. Separately, Zelensky reported that over 50 people may remain trapped under rubble after a Russian strike Monday killed 33 in the Zaporizhzhia region, while Russian e-commerce giant Ozon said a drone attack set fire to one of its warehouses in southwestern Russia.
