Iran's Revolutionary Guard reports fires on five tankers in Strait of Hormuz
Iran announced Thursday that fires broke out on five oil tankers and a tugboat while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a key flashpoint in the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington. The Revolutionary Guard reported two separate incidents, stating a large tanker hit a mine and caught fire after attempting an unauthorized crossing, while another stopped due to a massive blaze. The army later said three additional tankers struck naval mines in the region. No confirmation came from maritime officials, though the UK Maritime Trade Operations reported a tanker hit by unknown projectiles off Qatar's coast. Iran has effectively closed the strait since the US-Israeli war began in February.
