Iran reports three ships ablaze in Strait of Hormuz

lalibre.be (French) —

Iran reported Thursday that two oil tankers and a tugboat caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz, a key flashpoint in the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington. According to Iran's Revolutionary Guards, cited by state media, a large tanker struck a mine and caught fire Wednesday night while attempting to cross a prohibited area in the strait's south. In a separate incident, another supertanker was disabled by a major fire, and a tugboat approaching to assist also ignited. Tehran has locked down the strategic waterway since the conflict began, regularly targeting vessels attempting passage without authorization, while Washington enforces a blockade on Iranian ports. The Revolutionary Guards also reported seizing two Lucas-type drones in Iranian airspace, a model first used in combat when the U.S. and Israel launched war on Iran on February 28.
