Carney meets U.K. Prime Minister Burnham for first time in Liverpool

Prime Minister Mark Carney will meet U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham for the first time in Liverpool during a three-day European trip starting Tuesday, focusing on defence, security, energy, AI, and critical minerals. Carney congratulated Burnham after he took office on July 20, but this marks their first in-person meeting. Burnham is the U.K.'s fourth prime minister in four years, following Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, and Keir Starmer. Carney will also address the European Parliament in Strasbourg and attend the State of the European Union address. The trip follows Canada's counter tariffs on U.S. products after trade talks broke down in late August.
