US stock futures rebound after AI selloff
U.S. stock futures rose Sunday evening, led by Nasdaq futures, as investors cautiously returned to technology shares after last week's sharp selloff in AI-linked stocks, ahead of a busy earnings calendar. S&P 500 futures gained 0.5%, Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 1%, and Dow Jones futures rose 0.1%. The modest rebound followed a heavy week where concerns over AI infrastructure financing costs and tech valuation sustainability pressured growth stocks. The NASDAQ Composite fell 4.5% last week, ending a four-week winning streak, while the S&P 500 lost nearly 2%. Chip stocks were among the hardest hit, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index posting its longest losing streak since the 2008 financial crisis. CoreWeave, an Nvidia-backed data center operator, fell 12% Friday, extending its five-day decline to about 25%, as investors worried that heavily indebted AI infrastructure firms may struggle to generate returns quickly enough to cover rising financing costs. Attention now turns to quarterly results from major tech companies this week, including Meta Platforms and Tesla. Oil prices declined in early Asian trading Monday after President Donald Trump suspended sanctions and tariffs against Russia, a move that could increase Russian fuel supplies.
