US proposal to unfreeze Russian assets rejected by Europe
The United States proposed that European countries unfreeze some Russian sovereign assets and transfer them to a financial vehicle under Washington's supervision, but European delegates rejected the plan, according to the Financial Times. The proposal aimed to revive peace negotiations following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concern over President Donald Trump's rapprochement with Vladimir Putin, including a reported willingness to withhold vital intelligence from Kyiv. Zelensky told the Financial Times that Ukraine will resume attacks on Russian oil refineries after a three-day pause. He also accused the US of disrupting intelligence sharing and slowing Starlink satellite services, which Washington and SpaceX deny.
