UK in talks with US over Trump diesel export ban threat

The UK government is in talks with US authorities over President Donald Trump's threat to ban diesel exports, with Chancellor John Healey confirming preparations for a potential ban are underway. The UK relies on the US for about a third of its diesel imports, and a ban would push prices even higher. Trump is reportedly considering the move to lower domestic prices ahead of midterm elections. Average UK diesel prices reached 199.18p per litre, surpassing the previous high of 191.5p from June 2022. Petrol costs 174.13p per litre. Healey acknowledged "extreme" cost of living pressures ahead of his 28 October Budget, while a fuel duty freeze is set to expire in January.
