UK in talks with US over Trump diesel export ban threat

The UK government is in talks with US authorities over President Donald Trump's threat to ban diesel exports, with Chancellor John Healey confirming preparations for a potential ban are underway. Healey said the UK is working closely with the Americans and has its own fuel stocks as a contingency. The UK relies on the US for about a third of its diesel imports, and a ban would push prices even higher. UK diesel prices hit a record 199.18p per litre on Monday, surpassing the previous high set in June 2022. Healey acknowledged the "extreme" prices and called for a diplomatic settlement to ease cost pressures ahead of the 28 October Budget.
