Thousands join Amsterdam climate march demanding fossil fuel phaseout

Thousands of people participated in a climate march in Amsterdam on Saturday, according to NOS. The march, organized by the "Coalition Against Climate Crisis" including Milieudefensie and Extinction Rebellion, went from Dam Square to Museum Square. Participants demanded the Netherlands stop using fossil fuels and accelerate the transition to clean energy, carrying banners with slogans like "My God, stop using oil" and "Fossil fuels are not cool." Palestinian and XR flags were also visible. The 2.5-kilometer march is part of a growing trend of climate protests in Amsterdam, typically held in autumn, with 2023 being the most active year with about 85,000 participants. Meanwhile, in neighboring Germany, protests against right-wing extremists occurred the same day, following the Alternative for Germany's historic victory in Saxony-Anhalt elections on September 6.
