Thousands join Amsterdam climate march demanding end to fossil fuels

Thousands of people are marching in a climate protest through central Amsterdam, from Dam Square to Museumplein, demanding an end to the fossil fuel industry. The march, organized by Oxfam Novib, Extinction Rebellion, Milieudefensie, and over 200 other groups, began around 14:00 after a stage program featuring speakers and artists. Protesters carry signs with slogans like "holy moly, stop met olie" and "er is geen planeet B." Organizers argue that continued reliance on oil, coal, gas, and nuclear energy leaves society vulnerable to international conflicts and volatile energy prices. Previous climate marches in Amsterdam drew 85,000 participants in 2023 and 15,000 in 2024.
