Rome approves AS Roma's new Pietralata stadium, with construction set for 2027

The Italian government has formally approved the construction of AS Roma's new stadium in Pietralata, with the authorization signed by government commissioner Massimo Sessa and co-signed by Rome's mayor, Roberto Gualtieri. The approval makes the project a certainty, with construction potentially starting in March 2027. The authorization allows AS Roma to draft the executive project, while Rome's municipal government will launch a tender for the area's concession, with AS Roma retaining the right to match any competing offer. Mayor Gualtieri stated the stadium could be ready by late 2029, ahead of the UEFA Euro 2032 tournament. The Italian transport ministry called the stadium a strategic national infrastructure, while Sports Minister Andrea Abodi noted the final list of Euro 2032 host stadiums will be submitted to UEFA within three days. Abodi also expressed hope that the Lazio stadium project at Flaminio would proceed similarly.
