AS Roma's new stadium in Pietralata gets final approval, with construction set for 2027-2031

The construction of AS Roma's new stadium has been officially approved, ending years of delays. The project, located in Rome's Pietralata district, aims to start work by March 2027 and finish in 2031, in time for the 2032 European Championship. The approval came Monday from a services conference led by government commissioner Massimo Sessa, who signed the authorization with Mayor Roberto Gualtieri. Roma must now submit the executive project, while public tenders for access roads will launch. The club currently rents the Stadio Olimpico with Lazio. Roma has pursued a stadium since 2012, when a project at Tor di Valle was blocked. That plan collapsed in 2021 amid controversy and investigations. Costs for the Pietralata stadium have since doubled due to inflation and city requirements.
