Rare naturally conceived triplets born in Harbor City, California

A rare set of naturally conceived triplets, including a pair of identical twins, was born on Aug. 18 at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center in Harbor City, California, to parents Nylah Craft and Marco Bernal. The three healthy boys, Elio, Elias and Enzo, weighed over 19 pounds combined and required a 15-person delivery team. Doctors described the pregnancy as "extremely, extremely rare," with spontaneous triplets occurring in roughly one in 10,000 deliveries. The specific combination of identical twins and a fraternal sibling is even more uncommon. The boys were born full term without complications and went home about three days later, with their arrival coinciding with Bernal's birthday. The pregnancy required intensive monitoring, including weekly ultrasounds and preparation for potential complications like twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. The triplets join two older siblings, giving the couple five children under age 5. Nationally, the CDC recorded 2,444 triplet births in 2024.
