Nevada voters enshrine abortion rights in state constitution
Nevada voters have approved a ballot measure enshrining the right to abortion up to fetal viability in the state constitution, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ. The amendment passed with 63 percent support. The measure permits the state to enact abortion restrictions after viability, typically around 24 weeks of pregnancy, except when necessary to protect the mother's life or health. This marks the second consecutive election in which the measure passed, a requirement for constitutional amendments in Nevada. The approval continues a national trend of successful abortion rights ballot measures since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Similar protections have passed in states like California, Ohio, and Missouri, while more than a dozen states, mostly in the South, have enacted near-total abortion bans.
