Maruti Suzuki targets 50% sales from CNG vehicles

businesstoday.in

Maruti Suzuki India expects half of its vehicle sales to come from compressed natural gas (CNG) models, driven by new automatic variants of the Swift, Dzire, and Baleno, though no timeline was given. CNG penetration in Maruti’s portfolio currently stands at 43%, up from a national passenger vehicle share of 32% in August 2026. The company sells about 80,000 CNG vehicles monthly, holding a 70% market share, and aims for total green vehicle sales of nearly 1 million units. Maruti acknowledged supply constraints on CNG production capacity. The new S-CNG AMT models start at ₹7.92 lakh, with the Dzire claiming 36.47 km/kg fuel efficiency, India’s best in its sedan category.
