José Altuve reaches 2,500 career hits with double off Cristopher Sánchez

Houston Astros infielder José Altuve hit a double in the third inning against Philadelphia on Wednesday night, reaching 2,500 career hits. He became the second player in franchise history to achieve the milestone. The 36-year-old Venezuelan reached the mark with a drive to center field off Dominican starter Cristopher Sánchez. Hall of Famer Craig Biggio leads Houston with 3,060 hits. Altuve finished the game 4-1, but the Astros lost 11-7 to Philadelphia. Altuve, a three-time batting champion and 2017 American League MVP, has won two World Series titles with Houston. He and Freddie Freeman are the only active players with 2,500 career hits. Altuve would likely need at least three more seasons to reach 3,000.
