France protests again for higher wages as government seeks to prevent unrest
France is holding another nationwide protest day, with unions demanding higher wages and a review of budget plans. Police in Lyon used tear gas and charged at demonstrators, while a high school was set on fire near Toulouse. In Paris, students and protesters clashed with police after blocking a street with garbage bins, some of which were set alight in a suburb. Demonstrators are also calling for improved education, with strikes affecting schools, public transport, and healthcare. Unions expect 40,000 to 80,000 protesters in Paris and up to 700,000 nationwide. Authorities have deployed 70,000 police to prevent a repeat of the chaos seen on October 17, and the Eiffel Tower is closed to the public.
