FDA investigates salmonella outbreak tied to broccoli sprouts in four states

The FDA announced Wednesday it is investigating a multistate salmonella outbreak linked to recalled broccoli sprouts, with 22 cases reported across four states and two hospitalizations. The CDC and state partners identified cases in Washington, Montana, Idaho, and Utah, with no deaths reported. Evergreen Fresh Sprouts issued a recall for its broccoli sprouts in plastic bags or clamshell containers with specific expiration dates. Illnesses occurred between July 6 and Aug. 26, and 89 percent of interviewed patients reported eating broccoli sprouts. The recall followed a positive salmonella sample matching the outbreak strain, separate from other sprout-related E. coli and cyclospora investigations.
