Elon Musk's social media platform, X, which was previously known as Twitter, has seen a decline in user traffic in the U.S. since the presidential election in November. Despite this, X still has many more users compared to its rival, Bluesky. Data from Similarweb indicates that X's daily web visits dropped by 8.4% since November, with an average of 25 million active users per month, down 7.2%. In contrast, Bluesky has experienced growth. Its daily web visits rose by 21.5% post-election, and it now has about 1.5 million active users, a significant increase from around 540,000 in early November. After reaching a peak of 46.5 million visits on Election Day, X's traffic has decreased by 34.2%, falling to about 30.6 million. Meanwhile, Bluesky’s visits peaked at 2.6 million shortly after the election and have since stabilized at that level. Another competitor, Meta's Threads platform, has reported the largest increase in active users, rising by 14% to 13.6 million since November. The election generally increased social media traffic, with X benefiting the most. Musk's influence on X remains strong, as he posted frequently around the election, attracting significant attention and views. However, he has faced criticism for various controversies. Despite these challenges, X retains its status as the leading social media platform, while Bluesky is still growing but with far fewer users.
