Xfer Records has launched Serum 2, a major update to its well-known wavetable synthesizer plugin. This new version introduces multi-engine synthesis, expanding the sound creation tools available to users. Developed by Steve Duda, the original Serum was already popular with music producers. Serum 2 adds significant new features, making it even more powerful. Existing users can access this upgrade for free. One of the key upgrades in Serum 2 is the addition of multiple oscillator engines. The original primarily used wavetables, but now it also includes granular synthesis and sample-based oscillators. This allows for the creation of more complex and dynamic sounds. The update includes classic sampler features. Users can loop samples with precision and apply effects like tape-stop. The spectral oscillator enables real-time harmonic resynthesis, providing more ways to shape sounds. Other improvements include smoother transitions between waveforms and new modulation options for effects. The updated synthesizer also has a redesigned arpeggiator, more LFO shapes, and additional macro controls for better sound manipulation. Serum 2 launches at an introductory price of $189, with a regular price of $249. It works with 64-bit VST3, AU, and AAX formats. With 626 new presets and 288 wavetables, this update offers a rich library for users to explore.
