The world experienced the highest number of wars and armed conflicts since the end of World War II last year, according to a new report. The report, released Wednesday by the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), documented 61 conflicts across 36 countries in 2024. Africa was the most affected continent, with 28 conflicts, followed by Asia with 17. The study also noted that the number of deaths in these conflicts remained similar to the previous year, with approximately 129,000 fatalities. The lead author warned against reduced international engagement, particularly from the United States.
