Wisdom, the world's oldest known wild bird, has laid an egg at approximately 74 years old, marking her first egg in four years. She is a Laysan albatross and has laid around 60 eggs since being banded in 1956. Wisdom returned to Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge, where she has nested since 2006. Her long-time mate, Akeakamai, has not been seen for several years, and she is now interacting with a new male. Laysan albatrosses typically lay one egg per year and share incubation duties. Wisdom has raised about 30 chicks during her lifetime, surpassing the average lifespan of her species.
