Worldcoin rebrands as World and unveils new iris-scanning Orb device
Worldcoin, now renamed World, has launched a redesigned iris-scanning device called the Orb. This new version has 30% fewer parts, making it cheaper and easier to produce. It aims to increase accessibility for verifying human identity in the digital age. The updated Orb will be available for purchase or rent, allowing users to verify individuals in their communities. A new service, "Orb on Demand," will enable people to order Orbs for delivery. The device will also expand to more countries, including Brazil and Australia. World claims to have verified nearly 7 million unique individuals, despite ongoing privacy concerns regarding its biometric database. While World ID services are available in the U.S., the associated cryptocurrency token is not.
