World population to peak at 10.3 billion in 2080s

The United Nations predicts Earth's population will peak at 10.3 billion in the mid-2080s, then drop to 10.2 billion by 2100, 700 million fewer than previously estimated. Factors include declining fertility rates in large countries like China. Over 120 countries will see continued population growth beyond 2054. Global life expectancy is expected to rise to 77.4 years by 2054. By the late 2070s, those aged 65+ will surpass those under 18.
