Working mothers juggle extensive daily responsibilities, study finds
A new study shows that working mothers manage a huge workload each year. On average, they cook about 780 meals, wash and iron 728 loads of laundry, and drive their children around 520 times. The research highlights the challenges mothers face while balancing their jobs and family duties. According to the latest statistics, 75% of mothers are now employed, the highest rate in two decades. Many working mothers report feeling that parenting is more stressful than their jobs. Despite this, 82% would not trade being a parent for anything else. Eighty-three percent say the joys of motherhood provide a deep sense of purpose. The study also found that 92% of mothers feel responsible for their child’s happiness. To manage their many duties, they often sacrifice their own needs, losing an average of ten hours of sleep each week due to stress. Pursuing personal hobbies and social outings frequently takes a backseat. Jo Newby, a mother from East Yorkshire, has fostered 101 children over 24 years and describes motherhood as both challenging and rewarding. Her comments reflect the level of commitment many mothers feel. She says, “Being a mum is also a 24/7 role… and the love you receive makes every minute worthwhile.” The study shows that mothers juggle an average of 13 different roles for their children. If these roles were paid, their salary would equal about £184,000 a year. Jessica Nesbitt from an online gift store commissioned the research to highlight mothers' dedication and remind everyone to celebrate and appreciate their efforts this Mother’s Day.
