Woman charged with assault and arson after man found stabbed in burning Toronto apartment

A 29-year-old woman, Nakitha Smith, has been charged after a man was found stabbed in a burning apartment in downtown Toronto on Friday. The incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. at Sherbourne and Shuter streets. Emergency crews responded to heavy smoke and rescued two people from the fifth floor. The victim was hospitalized with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Smith faces charges of aggravated assault and two counts of arson. The relationship between her and the victim has not been disclosed. The charges are pending in court.
