Woman caught smuggling shabu into New Bilibid Prison

inquirer.net

A woman was caught trying to smuggle drugs into the New Bilibid Prison in the Philippines. On Wednesday, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) stopped 26-year-old Rovelyn Fabillar during a routine security check. Fabillar was a visitor for inmate Lester Martin Ramos. She allegedly hid crystal meth, known locally as shabu, inside her body. The drugs were wrapped in a condom and placed in a plastic bag. BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. reported that staff noticed something unusual in Fabillar’s abdomen, which led to the discovery. She has since been handed over to the Muntinlupa police for further action, and the drugs were sent to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. BuCor is taking steps to prevent drug smuggling into prisons. They recently acquired advanced body scanners to detect hidden contraband, which reduces the need for invasive searches.
