Wisdom, the world's oldest wild bird, lays 60th egg at 74 years old

Wisdom, a 74-year-old Laysan albatross, has laid her 60th egg at Midway Atoll, marking her first egg in four years. She is the oldest known wild bird, having been banded in 1956 and outliving the typical lifespan of her species. This year, Wisdom has been seen interacting with a new male partner after her long-time mate, Akeakamai, has not been observed recently. Wildlife officials are hopeful about the egg's chances of hatching, as the refuge is a critical nesting ground for seabirds. Wisdom has raised around 30 chicks during her lifetime.
