Winners of Sustainable Aviation Challenge announced in Quebec

Bombardier, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and TECHNATION Canada have announced the winners of the SustAInable Aviation Student Innovation Challenge. This competition encouraged Quebec’s college students to develop ideas for improving business aviation through sustainability. The event took place at Bombardier’s facility in Dorval, Quebec. Students presented projects that used artificial intelligence to promote sustainability in aviation. Luc Sirois, Quebec’s Chief Innovation Officer, spoke about the role of AI in current business practices. Throughout the challenge, students received guidance from Bombardier and TCS experts. A panel of judges, which included a robot programmed with advanced AI, evaluated the final presentations. The robot interacted with students and asked questions in both French and English. Brigitte Larivière, Chief Information Officer at Bombardier, expressed pride in supporting young innovators. She mentioned the company’s focus on innovation and sustainability. Soumen Roy, TCS’s Executive Director in Canada, also highlighted the importance of nurturing the next generation of leaders. Angela Mondou, CEO of TECHNATION, stated that sustainability is important for all industries, including aviation. She praised the challenge for engaging students in real-world issues. Montreal's Mayor, Valérie Plante, shared enthusiasm for the challenge, emphasizing the city's ambition to lead in decarbonizing aviation. Nearly 100 students participated, with 25 advancing to the final round. The students competed for cash prizes totaling $16,000 and opportunities for internships. Overall, the challenge represents a significant effort to inspire future talents in the aviation industry while promoting sustainable practices.
