West Indies to enhance player safety standards review
The cricket organizations in the West Indies are planning to review player safety protocols. This comes after allegations of sexual harassment during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020. The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced their joint effort to ensure player protection. They aim to maintain the highest standards of player welfare. This review follows new safety measures implemented in 2021, which included better protection for women on tours. Starting in 2023, the senior women's team will stay in single-room accommodation while on international tours. The organizations have also set up the Women’s Cricket Transformation Committee to advance women’s cricket further. Both WIPA and CWI emphasized their commitment to UNICEF’s Child Protection Policy. This policy ensures that minors are never placed in the same room as adults. The groups will continue to provide mandatory training for officials to keep player welfare standards strong.
