West Bengal assembly calls for direct international flights from Kolkata to US and Europe
West Bengal's assembly passed a motion on Thursday, urging the Union government to attract airlines for direct international flights from Kolkata to Europe and the US. This motion received unanimous support from all members. State minister Chandrima Bhattacharya emphasized the need for improved connectivity, stating that current travel often requires stopovers in other cities. The last direct flight to Europe from Kolkata ended in 2022. Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari supported the motion but criticized the ruling party for not facilitating airport expansions. He noted that passenger demand and economic viability are crucial for attracting airlines to Kolkata.
