Waynesboro trial: Jacob Sipe faces first-degree murder charges
A Waynesboro man, Jacob P. Sipe, 24, is on trial for the first-degree murder of Trevor Hill, 33. Hill was shot six times on his front porch on July 23, 2023. At the time, Hill's 2-year-old son was inside the home. The shooting happened after the two men had spent the night drinking and using drugs. During opening arguments, the prosecutor, Timothy Martin, described how Hill was shot in various parts of his body, including the face and chest. Defense attorney Benjamin Beliles argued that Hill attacked Sipe first, claiming the incident was in self-defense. Hill was unarmed at the time. Several witnesses testified. Skyler Tyler, a neighbor, heard the gunshots and saw Sipe standing over Hill's body, swearing at him. Another witness, Joseph Caul, stated that Sipe had an angry demeanor and used drugs while visiting earlier that morning. Police were called to the scene and found Hill dead, with evidence indicating he had been shot multiple times. Body camera footage showed Hill's young son crying for his father, which affected the jurors emotionally. Sipe claimed he shot Hill after being attacked but could not recall all the details of the incident. Sipe purchased the handgun used in the shooting legally in early 2024. He faces multiple charges, including the use of a firearm in a felony. The trial is expected to conclude on Thursday.
