Waterford town votes to disband police department and contract with sheriff's office

The Town of Waterford has voted to disband its police department and will contract with the Racine County Sheriff's Office for law enforcement. This decision was made in a 2-1 vote on Monday night. The new contract with the Sheriff's Office will last for at least five years. The town will withdraw its previous proposal to continue police services for the Village of Waterford. Waterford plans to hire a part-time police chief for water patrol and will eliminate police clerk positions, as the Sheriff's Office will take over those duties.
