Wanted man arrested after body discovered in Glenorie
A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of John Birch, whose body was found in a shallow grave in Glenorie, a suburb in Sydney's north-west. Birch, 39, was reported missing, prompting police to investigate last week. The discovery was made by officers last Friday after they received reports about Birch. The investigation revealed that he likely died from blunt force trauma, although a post-mortem examination could not confirm the exact cause. Initially, three people—a 24-year-old man, a 34-year-old man, and a 35-year-old woman—were detained for questioning but were released without charges. Police continued their search for the 24-year-old man who was on the run. After several days of searching, police found the man sleeping in a vehicle at a familiar address in Glenorie just after 2 PM today. Police had visited this location multiple times during their investigation. Superintendent Naomi Moore, who is leading the case, stated that they will interrogate the arrested man further and consider possible charges. She also indicated that other individuals are still on their radar and encouraged them to come forward for clarification. The community had expressed fears during the manhunt, which involved road closures and helicopter patrols. Superintendent Moore reassured residents that there was no ongoing threat and noted the relationship between the people involved was not random. She thanked the local community for their patience and support during the investigation, acknowledging that their assistance provided valuable information that helped police in their efforts.
