Visalia boy celebrates seizure-free life after rare epilepsy diagnosis
Sammy Castillo, a four-year-old boy from Visalia, is now living seizure-free after being diagnosed with a rare epilepsy condition called Nicolaides Baraitser Syndrome. His family reports he has had only one small seizure in the past year. Sammy's journey began at 20 months old when he experienced his first seizures, leading to a hospital visit and a diagnosis of epilepsy. After trying various medications, his family consulted a specialist who recommended an FDA-approved drug for adults, used off-label for children. The Castillo family now enjoys a more normal life, participating in activities like watching movies together. They express gratitude for their time together this Thanksgiving, feeling a renewed sense of normalcy.
