Việt Nam enhances tuberculosis prevention and control efforts
Việt Nam is committed to strengthening its efforts to prevent and control tuberculosis (TB) this year. The country marked a significant achievement in 2024, detecting over 113,000 TB cases—7% more than in 2023. The treatment success rate is at 89%, slightly above the global average. On March 24, during World Tuberculosis Day, Việt Nam emphasized the importance of sustainable investment and effective actions in the fight against TB. This year's theme highlights the need for strong commitments from nations and the implementation of national strategies to combat TB. Despite progress, Việt Nam continues to face a serious TB epidemic. The National Tuberculosis Control Programme reports about 182,000 new cases each year, with 9,900 being drug-resistant TB. Around 11,000 people die from TB annually. In 2023, Việt Nam ranked as one of the top countries affected by TB globally. For Việt Nam to eliminate TB by 2030, it requires broad support and commitment from government leaders, organizations, and the community. Collaborative efforts will help ensure sustainable funding and implement effective TB prevention measures at all levels.
