Veja uses Brazilian recycled plastic for ethical sneakers
French sneaker brand Veja, known for its ethical production, is now incorporating recycled plastic from Brazil into its shoes, aiming for full traceability and social impact. Veja's initiative involves partnering with cooperatives of "catadores" (waste pickers) in Brazil, who collect and sort plastic bottles. This collaboration provides the catadores with a stable income and empowers them within the recycling process, which is then transformed into thread for the shoes. This move reflects Veja's commitment to sustainable practices, addressing the environmental impact of footwear production and supporting local communities. The brand aims to have all its shoes made with recycled Brazilian plastic.
