Vargao's historic sacred well faces preservation challenges as community rallies for protection
A sacred well in Vargao, believed to be over 300 years old, is at risk of disappearing. Located near the Candola-Old Goa Road, it is associated with local spiritual traditions and has been neglected over time. Local leaders are now taking action to protect the well. It has been added to the People Biodiversity Register, and there are plans to designate it as a heritage site. Community members are also working together to conserve it. The well features unique architecture and is a site for annual religious ceremonies. However, natural decay and overgrowth have made it less visible, raising concerns about its preservation.
