Valparaiso Police are looking into the installation of card skimming devices at two local businesses. The incidents happened on Saturday. The police have found a suspect and have details about their vehicle. However, they will not release the suspect’s name until charges are officially made. According to a police Facebook post, the investigation will continue with the help of federal partners. Authorities believe the suspect's activities may extend beyond Valparaiso. Police mentioned that specific business names are only shared if necessary. Beef Mart reported that a skimming device was placed on their point-of-sale machine after 1:30 p.m. on March 22. Staff found the device at around 3:10 p.m. and advised customers to monitor their credit cards for unusual activity. After discovering the device, the store contacted the police. At Sunrise Health Foods, the skimming device was installed at 1:14 p.m. Staff noticed it just six minutes later. They quickly removed it and informed the Valparaiso Police. Police have thanked local businesses for their quick actions in identifying the skimmers and reporting them. They encourage all businesses to check their credit card machines regularly. If they find anything suspicious, they should report it right away.
