VACB seeks 45-day extension for ADGP Ajith Kumar case

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has asked for 45 more days to finish its investigation into ADGP MR Ajith Kumar. The agency told the Thiruvananthapuram court on Tuesday that more time is needed to complete the inquiry. The court is set to review the case again on May 6. The VACB explained that they need further clarity for the investigation. However, sources say that the vigilance director, Yogesh Gupta, has already submitted a report to the state government. Ajith Kumar faces several allegations, including connections to gold smuggling and illegal wealth. If the VACB report clears Ajith Kumar, it would help him advance to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP). The investigation was launched after complaints from former MLA PV Anvar. Reports indicate that investigators found no evidence linking him to gold smuggling. They also did not find any issues with a flat purchase in Thiruvananthapuram's Kowdiar area. In the meantime, the state government has approved a recommendation to promote Ajith Kumar to the DGP rank. The cabinet has officially backed this decision.
