USPS to cut 10,000 jobs, collaborate with DOGE
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy plans to cut 10,000 jobs and billions from the U.S. Postal Service budget. This will be done in collaboration with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency to address financial issues at the agency. The USPS, which currently employs about 640,000 workers, aims to implement these cuts through a voluntary early retirement program within 30 days. The agency has previously announced plans to reduce operating costs by over $3.5 billion annually. Critics, including Democratic Rep. Gerald Connolly, express concerns that these cuts could undermine the Postal Service, especially for rural communities. The National Association of Letter Carriers opposes any privatization efforts that could threaten jobs and service reliability.
