USPS plans to cut 10,000 jobs and costs
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy plans to cut 10,000 jobs and billions from the U.S. Postal Service budget. This will be done in collaboration with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency to address financial issues at the agency. The USPS, which currently employs about 640,000 workers, aims to implement these cuts through a voluntary early retirement program within 30 days. This follows previous job reductions, including 30,000 cuts in 2021. Critics, including Democratic Rep. Gerald Connolly, express concern that these changes may lead to privatization and negatively impact service, especially in rural areas. The USPS has struggled financially amid declining first-class mail volumes.
