USPS partners with DOGE to improve management efficiency
US Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has signed an agreement with the Department of Government Efficiency and the General Services Administration. This partnership will allow DOGE teams to help improve USPS management, particularly in retirement assets and workers' compensation. Since 2021, USPS has reduced its workforce by about 30,000 employees and plans to cut another 10,000 through voluntary retirements. DeJoy has stated that the Postal Service's financial issues stem from mismanagement and outdated regulations. The agreement has drawn criticism from some lawmakers, who express concern that it may lead to privatization and negatively impact mail delivery, especially in rural areas. DeJoy's leadership has faced scrutiny amid ongoing financial struggles for the Postal Service.
