USPS partners with DOGE to address financial issues

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has partnered with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to find cost savings and address financial issues. This agreement includes plans to cut 10,000 jobs through a voluntary retirement program. Previously, the USPS had been outside DOGE's influence. The agency has already eliminated 30,000 positions since 2021 and aims to reduce projected losses significantly. Critics express concern that this partnership may lead to privatization. The USPS has faced financial struggles, losing over $100 billion since 2007. Despite cost-cutting measures, it reported a $9.5 billion loss in 2024. The announcement follows Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's plans to step down after five years.
